Week 8 : Computational Thinking

Today we looked at Computational Thinking in the  Digital Technology curriculum. We also had a look at Progression Outcomes - decoded for learners, which was really helpful.

At first, I didn't think I would be able to use Computational Thinking with my Food Technology or Hospitality classes, but after our creative session, I got so exited! We created an App using MIT app inventor and downloading the  MIT AI2 Companion app on your phone to test your app.

I created an App for "My Recipes" and added different pages for the different baking we do in class: Cakes, Muffins & Scones. I am so exited about the possibilities! I think that my students would love creating an app with the different dishes we create and using photos of their creations on the app. This is another  really creative way in which they can share their work!

  1. That is so cool Maryke! I think your students would like to have a go too. I'm sure you are probably already doing some Design and Developing Digital Outcomes with your students. Things like animations with Google slides is a start.
On the computational thinking side, think about how you might be able to use a sorting algorithm for students to work out the right sequence for a recipe. Here's an article Three ways coding is baking that might interest you.
