Week 9 : External Recognition

What a journey! Unfortunately I was not successful with my Google Level 1 Certification exam. I will definitely have to try again and practice harder to be successful. I really enjoyed the DFI program over the last 8 weeks and am very grateful to have had the opportunity to learn new skills and tools. I am working hard to incorporate as much of all that we learned in my everyday class practice and when I prepare my lessons for my students. I guess I will have to learn to be patient with myself....Rome wasn't built in one day!

I will miss my group! I think we had the best group of all the DFI groups and many thanks to Kerry. She is just lovely to work with and soooooo patient! Thanks Kerry!

Week 8 : Computational Thinking

Today we looked at Computational Thinking in the  Digital Technology curriculum. We also had a look at Progression Outcomes - decoded for learners, which was really helpful.

At first, I didn't think I would be able to use Computational Thinking with my Food Technology or Hospitality classes, but after our creative session, I got so exited! We created an App using MIT app inventor and downloading the  MIT AI2 Companion app on your phone to test your app.

I created an App for "My Recipes" and added different pages for the different baking we do in class: Cakes, Muffins & Scones. I am so exited about the possibilities! I think that my students would love creating an app with the different dishes we create and using photos of their creations on the app. This is another  really creative way in which they can share their work!

Week 7: Devices

Today we focused on using different devices (iPad & Crome books). It is interesting to see and learn how to use the devices our learners use in class.

We created a workspace in Hapara about being Cyber Smart - very use full and I will definitely use Hapara more in the future. Learners can easily submit their assignments and all the resources etc are neatly organized and accessible in one space.

Week 6 : Enabling Access

Tidying up my Learning site : Before and After

Before:

After:

I think my learning site's home page looks much better after today! I would like to make some more tweaks...this is a work in progress. I think there is still a lot of work to be done but I will take it one day at a time and work my way through my site.

Creating a Google Site

Today we spend some time on creating a Google Site from scratch. I am still new to all the different ways to edit / add / create the site and slow in creating my site, but with practice I think I will improve. Slowly but surely getting there!

Dealing with Data

I really enjoyed today. It is really amazing to learn about al these new tools.

I have created a map of all the holiday favourite  destinations of  the DFI group. I think this might be something fun to do with my L2 students while we are doing International dishes.

I also learned how to use data from a blog post and create a chart to display manipulated data.

Can't wait to see what we are going to learn next week!

Creating with slides

Today we created with Google slide. There is so much information shared and great new tools to use! I will need to go through all the presentation slides again to make sure I didn't miss anything. There are also a few new tools like Animation with slides that I would like to take a look at and how to create a simple app with Google slides for students to share their learning easily. Hopefully I will remember all of these great new tools we learned about!
